Hello, my name is Kevin Farmer and I'm the creator and host of Drums For Parkinson's. My father Alan was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease over 15 years ago and that has inspired my family and I to participate in the Parkinson Canada Superwalk since 2008. Every year we walk to raise funds that go towards research, education and support for people living with Parkinson's. When the Covid-19 pandemic was in full swing in 2020, I started thinking outside the box and came up with a crazy idea on how to combine my love of playing drums with a cause that I am truly passionate about.

On Sunday August 28th, 2022, I will be playing drums for 12 hours straight and live streaming the event on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch for the world to see. From 9am - 9pm, I will be performing solo, with bands and special guests while interacting with the online audience and giving away great prizes for donors. In the first 2 years of the event, over $28,000 has been raised! I'm hoping that this year will be bigger and better, so the goal is to raise $20,000! All funds received go directly to Parkinson Canada.

Did you know that over 100,000 Canadians are living with Parkinson's and each day that number increases by at least 25? Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease. Movement is normally controlled by dopamine, a chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain. When cells that normally produce dopamine die, the symptoms of Parkinson’s appear. Symptoms of Parkinson's can include: tremors, slowness and stiffness, impaired balance, rigidity of the muscles and that's just a few of them. Although there are medications and surgeries that can help with the symptoms, there is no cure.
